First Nations writer-actors Nakkiah Lui and Miranda Tapsell introduce themselves and their podcast Pretty for an Aboriginal.
Launched in September 2017, their podcast aims to shine a spotlight on topics that the mainstream media and Australians generally are uncomfortable discussing – including race, power, sex and relationships.
The advent of podcasting has given a platform for a range of marginalised and disadvantaged communities to have their perspectives heard by a larger audience. Community radio has always fulfilled a similar function but with nowhere near the reach or accessibility of podcasting.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia acknowledges Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live and gives respect to their Elders both past and present.
