Dir: Lucky Kuswandi, Indonesia, 102mins, digital

Jakarta’s transgender community are being picking-off by the vigilantes of the religious extremist group Bogem, led by the villainous Mr Storm. Only hairdresser Adam survives the massacre at their favourite nightclub (although the girls bravely go to their fate quoting Beyonce). All seems lost until Adam is rescued by the mysterious but wise gay couple Tante and Oom, who induct him into the ways of traditional Lenggok dancing and queer superherodom. Healed and ready for action, Adam heads to the bad guys hideout, for the final confrontation. It’s 'the forces of the Rainbow’ v. Storm and his three buka-shrouded wives. Lucky Kuswandi’s naughty action comic builds a camp coalition between the liberal and liberated in modern Indonesian pop culture (not just from its queer edges, but also its I-pop dance club mainstream, with guest stars like Marcell, Shanty and Titi DJ). It’s a flaming, snappy come-back to the increasingly subtle pressure and overt threats to which the nation’s gay community is subjected.
